Safe Use of Portable Generators
If the power goes out and you decide to use a portable generator, use extreme caution. Because a generator’s exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide (CO), it should never be used inside a home, garage, or other partially enclosed space. Portable generators should only be used outside and far away from openings to the home, including doors, windows, and vents. For additional advice on using portable generators, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
